Amos 2:13–16 — The New International Version (NIV)

13 “Now then, I will crush you

as a cart crushes when loaded with grain.

14 The swift will not escape,

the strong will not muster their strength,

and the warrior will not save his life.

15 The archer will not stand his ground,

the fleet-footed soldier will not get away,

and the horseman will not save his life.

16 Even the bravest warriors

will flee naked on that day,”

declares the Lord.

Amos 2:13–16 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

13 Behold, I am pressed under you,

As a cart is pressed that is full of sheaves.

14 Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift,

And the strong shall not strengthen his force,

Neither shall the mighty deliver himself:

15 Neither shall he stand that handleth the bow;

And he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself:

Neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself.

16 And he that is courageous among the mighty

Shall flee away naked in that day, saith the Lord.

Amos 2:13–16 — New Living Translation (NLT)

13 “So I will make you groan

like a wagon loaded down with sheaves of grain.

14 Your fastest runners will not get away.

The strongest among you will become weak.

Even mighty warriors will be unable to save themselves.

15 The archers will not stand their ground.

The swiftest runners won’t be fast enough to escape.

Even those riding horses won’t be able to save themselves.

16 On that day the most courageous of your fighting men

will drop their weapons and run for their lives,”

says the Lord.

Amos 2:13–16 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

13 “Behold, I am weighed down by you,

As a cart full of sheaves is weighed down.

14 Therefore flight shall perish from the swift,

The strong shall not strengthen his power,

Nor shall the mighty deliver himself;

15 He shall not stand who handles the bow,

The swift of foot shall not escape,

Nor shall he who rides a horse deliver himself.

16 The most courageous men of might

Shall flee naked in that day,”

Says the Lord.

Amos 2:13–16 — New Century Version (NCV)

13 Now I will make you get stuck,

as a wagon loaded with grain gets stuck.

14 No one will escape, not even the fastest runner.

Strong people will not be strong enough;

warriors will not be able to save themselves.

15 Soldiers with bows and arrows will not stand and fight,

and even fast runners will not get away;

soldiers on horses will not escape alive.

16 At that time even the bravest warriors

will run away without their armor,” says the Lord.

Amos 2:13–16 — American Standard Version (ASV)

13 Behold, I will press you in your place, as a cart presseth that is full of sheaves. 14 And flight shall perish from the swift; and the strong shall not strengthen his force; neither shall the mighty deliver himself; 15 neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself; neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself; 16 and he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith Jehovah.

Amos 2:13–16 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

13 Behold, I will press upon you, as a cart presseth that is full of sheaves. 14 And flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver his soul. 15 Neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and the swift of foot shall not escape, and he that rideth the horse shall not deliver his soul; 16 and he that is stout-hearted among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith Jehovah.

Amos 2:13–16 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

13 I am going to crush you as an overloaded wagon crushes a person.

14 Runners will not be able to escape.

Strong men will find that their strength is useless.

Soldiers will not be able to save themselves.

15 Archers will not stand their ground.

Fast runners will not be able to escape.

Horsemen will not be able to save themselves.

16 Brave soldiers will run away naked that day.

The Lord has declared this.

Amos 2:13–16 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

13 Look, I am about to crush you in your place

as a wagon full of sheaves crushes grain.

14 Escape will fail the swift,

the strong one will not prevail by his strength,

and the brave will not save his life.

15 The archer will not stand his ground,

the one who is swift of foot

will not save himself,

and the one riding a horse will not save his life.

16 Even the most courageous of the warriors

will flee naked on that day —

this is the Lord’s declaration.

Amos 2:13–16 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

13 So, I will press you down in your place,

just as a cart presses down

when it is full of sheaves.

14 Flight shall perish from the swift,

and the strong shall not retain their strength,

nor shall the mighty save their lives;

15 those who handle the bow shall not stand,

and those who are swift of foot shall not save themselves,

nor shall those who ride horses save their lives;

16 and those who are stout of heart among the mighty

shall flee away naked in that day,

says the Lord.

Amos 2:13–16 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

13 Look! I am going to press you down in your place just as a utility cart full of mature stalks of grain is pressed down. 14 Flight will perish from the swift and the strong person will not muster his strength and the warrior will not save his life. 15 And the one who takes hold of the bow will not stand and the one who is swift on his feet will not save himself, nor will the one who rides the horse save his life. 16 Even those who are strong of heart among the mighty will flee away naked from the city on that day. This is the declaration of Yahweh!”

Amos 2:13–16 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

13 “A cart that is loaded with grain

crushes anything it runs over.

In the same way, I will crush you.

14 Your fastest runners will not escape.

The strongest people will not get away.

Even soldiers will not be able

to save their own lives.

15 Men who are armed with bows will lose the battle.

Soldiers who are quick on their feet will not escape.

Horsemen will not be able

to save their own lives.

16 Even your bravest soldiers

will run away naked on that day,”

announces the Lord.

Amos 2:13–16 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

13 Behold, I am weighted down beneath you

As a wagon is weighted down when filled with sheaves.

14 Flight will perish from the swift,

And the stalwart will not strengthen his power,

Nor the mighty man save his life.

15 “He who grasps the bow will not stand his ground,

The swift of foot will not escape,

Nor will he who rides the horse save his life.

16 “Even the bravest among the warriors will flee naked in that day,” declares the Lord.
