HONORING MASTERS

All who are under the yoke as slaves should regard their own mastersG as worthy of all respect, so that God’s nameac and his teaching will not be blasphemed. Let those who have believing masters not be disrespectful to them because they are brothers, but serve them even better, since those who benefit from their service are believers and dearly loved.H,ad

FALSE DOCTRINE AND HUMAN GREED

Teach and encourage these things. If anyone teaches false doctrine and does not agree with the sound teaching of our Lordae Jesus Christ and with the teaching that promotes godliness,af he is conceited and understands nothing, but has an unhealthy interest in disputes and arguments over words.ag From these come envy,ah quarreling,ai slander,aj evil suspicions, and constant disagreement among people whose minds are depraved and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness is a way to material gain.I,ak But godliness with contentment is great gain.al For we brought nothing into the world, andJ we can take nothing out.am If we have food and clothing,K we will be content with these. But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a rootA of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faitha and pierced themselves with many griefs.

FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT

11 But you, man of God, flee from these things, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love,b endurance,c and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fightd of the faith. Take hold of eternal lifee to which you were called and about which you have made a good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 In the presence of God, who gives life to all,f and of Christ Jesus, who gave a good confession before Pontius Pilate,g I charge you 14 to keep this command without fault or failure until the appearingh of our Lordi Jesus Christ. 15 God will bring this about in his own time.j He is the blessed and onlyk Sovereign, the King of kings,l and the Lord of lords,m 16 who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light,n whom no one has seen or can see,o to him be honor and eternal power.p Amen.q

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE RICH

17 Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogantr or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God,B who richly provides us with all thingss to enjoy. 18 Instruct them to do what is good, to be rich in good works,t to be generous and willing to share,u 19 storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the coming age,v so that they may take hold of what is truly life.

GUARD THE HERITAGE

20 Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you,w avoidingx irreverent and empty speech and contradictions from what is falsely called knowledge.y 21 By professing it, somez people have departed from the faith.aa

Grace be with you all.

CSB

About Christian Standard Bible

The Christian Standard Bible (CSB) is a highly trustworthy, faithful translation that is proven to be the optimal blend of accuracy and readability. It’s as literal to the original as possible without sacrificing clarity. The CSB is poised to become the translation that pastors rely on and Bible readers turn to again and again to read and to share with others.

The CSB is an original translation: more than 100 scholars from 17 denominations translated directly from the best available Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic source texts into English. Its source texts are the standard used by scholars and seminaries today.

The CSB is trustworthy: the conservative, evangelical scholars of the CSB affirm the authority of Scripture as the inerrant Word of God and seek the highest level of faithfulness to the original and accuracy in their translation. These scholars and LifeWay, the non-profit ministry that stewards the CSB, also champion the Bible against cultural trends that would compromise its truths.

The CSB is clear: it is as literal a translation of the ancient source texts as possible, but, in the many places throughout Scripture where a word-for-word rendering might obscure the meaning for a modern audience, it uses a more dynamic translation. In all cases, the intent is to convey the original meaning of God’s Word as faithfully and as clearly as possible.
